Conrad Robert Falk was born in Chicago on March 1, 1935. His parents were of the ages 17 (father) and 15 (mother) when Conrad was birthed.
He also studied through a series of schools like South Shore High School, The YMCA Central School, Hyde Park High School, and New Trier High School.
When Robert reached the age of 15, he started working fully in truck loading at the Eastern Freightways and Consolidated Freightways. He also drove a milk truck for Bowman Diary of Chicago and sang in a Chicago cabaret. He did all these to support his family.
Robert then studied theatre at the Northwestern University.

Robert Conrad’s first chance as an actor came when he met and became friends with the rising star Nick Adams during a James Dean gravesite visitation in Fairmount. Adams suggested that Conrad should go to California and pursue an acting career.
