Terri Lyne Carrington was born on November 3rd, 1961 in Detroit to parents James and Wilma Carrington. At the age of three her father had passed away leaving her mother to raise her by herself.

As she grew up she showed great interest in drums after watching Ringo Starr play with his all-star band on television during concerts at Tiger Stadium (now known as Comerica Park). Her mother encouraged her talent by buying her a set of drums for Christmas which sparked what has now become a long and successful career as a world-class musician.

Terri Lyne Carrington began playing drums at the age of three as she shows great interest for drums after watching Ringo Starr play with his all-star band on television during concerts at Tiger Stadium (now known as Comerica Park).
